The Sidney Sessions
The Sidney Sessions were produced by Craig Beyrooti and Rafe Lavine in South Africa starting in 1986 and served to provide new original music for Radio 5’s purely South African music programmes. The Sessions were a vehicle for up-and-coming musicians to showcase their songwriting and performance skills in the studio. Talented, but yet unknown bands, would gain exposure and attract record companies when their songs were played on the radio. The project was very successful and continued to develop with another two albums. The first album consisted of ten excellent original tracks by ten different bands. 2022 marks the 35th anniversary of the album’s 1987 release.
The first track on the album, “Alter Ego”, was written by Peter Beyrooti and performed by his group Special Envoy. Peter now composes for The Righteous Bureau.
